Around the courthouse, there are a lot of angry people, many with extremely short fuses and not much reason to behave in a civil manner.

and with the armed officers that are already in the buildings and literally within seconds away....I would predict a relatively similar "technical answer".
Further, the pentagon is an extremely high value target for more than just your 'regular' nut case (although they have tried to, as you indicate)....the security required and warranted in that area is not even close to the same as what would be warranted at the Halifax County courthouse. Or are you contending that we need to mimic them?
Additionally, had that joker been a little more determined to cause harm, and not essentially suicidal...he likely could have done more damage...even with the extensive security at the Pentagon.
Can we please stop with the false equivalences....
