Grasshopper

I have a billboard on my property at Flags and Such, it is old, grandfathered into the land, ugly and in dire need of repairs. I am meeting with the man from Capital next week to decide if I want to renew my lease. My Dad wanted it down because he said it is an eyesore. Go look at it when ya drive by - eyesore? I am leaning to request Capital to take it all down. Once it comes down I can never erect another billboard on my lot. It is pretty dang ugly and not up to code. Do you think my lot would look better without the eyesore? I had the parking garage removed earlier, trying to make it look nice for Pops, your thoughts and honest opinions are requested.

Hi LeAnne...I haven't seen the billboard, but you ask if your lot would look better without the eyesore. It seems likely that it probably would, but don't take my word for it. Ask your dad Very Happy

It is my billboard, Capital leases it from me. I have all the paperwork that Pop had on it.
Since he passed away, I just had not had time to address the offer of renewing the lease with Capital.

If you think it's an eyesore, and your dad did too, why not have them take it down?
Do they regularly take care of the property around it - such as keeping the weeds down, painting the structure, etc.?
Those are the questions I would ask myself before I made a decision.

Nope, absolutely no upkeep has been given to this pitiful billboard. Since it was grandfathered into the lot, if a storm or mother nature ever took it down, it can never be re-erected. I am looking at all my options, and I truly am leaning towards having it removed.

They want to renew the lease and they are willing to pay, but they want me to enter into a 20 year lease and that is just too long for me. The lease expired July 21,2009 and they took it upon themselves to put up new advertising last week, which of course, P!$$ed me off big time since they had not bothered to return not ONE of my phone calls. I am meeting with the guy Tuesday to see what he has to offer.

LOL - I know ya probably think I am crazy. I know my Dad wanted that billboard down and I guess part of me feels like I should honor what he wanted - Once I meet with him Tuesday I will holla and let ya know what options he gives me. I talked to my lawyer and I know he has to pay me back lease $ from last July to present.

True story:

You know this billboard over here at Ed's? It was looking pretty crappy, with nothing on it.

Reave's Trophy Shop offered to redo the whole billboard if we would let them put their info on the bottom fifth, and Dad said, "Sure!" They did a really good job, too.

Within three weeks, we had guys from VDOT here telling us we were not licensed to rent a billboard (didn't know we had to) and the Reave's stuff had to come off because Reave's was not on this location. So we tore off the Reave's part and the billboard looks crappy again.
