Agreed. Especially since the temp is below freezing.
Also according to Nick Long's comments on the radio this morning,.... the school systems director of transporation called him and told him that there is "two worlds" of road conditions.....the southern part of the county is OK, while the northern end is extremely dangerous. _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |

I was told that the roads up by Volens are bad. _________________ Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound

One of my co-workers says the roads in from Clover are terrible, too. _________________ Quid custodit ipsos custodes?

One of the guys checking roads early this morning wrecked on the ice. They had to get a wrecker. Suppose it had been a bus load of kids.
Somewhere in the Volens area. |

I have been reading, not posting up to now on this thread.
Medieval, I am curious and I may have missed this info earlier...are you from a more northern or midwestern clime? I do know that we are just not as experienced in real winter weather here, at least not of late.
Obvious observations-
We cannot control the weather.
We live in a litiginous(?SP) society.
We live in a very large county that has differing weather...often very different. The northern part can be very treacherous while clear south of Halifax.
This is what we deal with. Simple, no answers but it is the reality.
So,. what to do. Richmond had a terrible time this morning....buses were already running, had to slip and slide...had to get kids back home and call parents on a child by child basis to try to get them back home. They could not control the timing of the heavy snow squall that came through .
I was up at 4 am and it was snowing heavily and sticking in Halifax.
BTW>>>This thread may die now as I often am known for some reason to shut down threads....:-) _________________ Never ask for permission....beg for forgiveness.

I had to go into the office for a while today, and the road I live on was pretty much iced over; however, when I got to Bethel Road (old 360).....that one was fine. Main roads being in good shape don't equal to the back roads being good.
And yes, one of the transportation employees did have an accident this morning. He lives in the same area that my bus route goes through. Glad I wasn't out there with a busload of precious cargo slipping and sliding. _________________ I wished to live deliberately, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I'm sorry, I have no problem with others attacking me or my views, ridiculing me or my views, or arguing or disagreeing with me or my views, but I will no longer be posting anything on this public forum, as my words have been taken out of context and used to do harm towards a third and unconnected party, and I refuse to be used for someone else's purposes. I am happy to accept private messages but will no longer be participating in discussions. _________________ If it weren't for gravity and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable! |

I have no idea what Medieval is dealing with or what that is all about. I was certainly NOT attacking her or her opinions. Gee. lighten up, if you are referring to my little innocuous post. I was simply elaborating on obvious facts we are dealing with.
No need , IMO, to take your marbles and leave. Must be something going on I am not aware of here. _________________ Never ask for permission....beg for forgiveness.

Squirrelgirl55...have to break it to you...you can't shut down any thread here yet! As far as taking home the marbles...well, I've lost mine...so I always just keep playing without them!
Medievalmaniac, I do hope you do not leave this thread and I certainly do hope that whatever heavy burdens you are carrying can be lightened quickly somehow. Please look for a p.m. from me...or just give me a buzz...or both!
Frankly, this is more snow than we have had in ages and it already has put a lot of folks in difficult situations, but we will make it through. Our children will learn to roll with the punches, our schools will tweak the schedules and through it all, we'll find that were better off and stronger than we thought. These days have been very difficult for many, I have no doubt.
I glad that the gent that had the accident is healthy, warm, and safe. I thank the Almighty that no children were out there today. The roads, even now, are slick.
Snapping at each other here doesn't help anyone find solutions to difficult moments/situations/frustrations. Banter, discussions and communication will make all of the difference. The best way to get through this is by pulling together. Besides, Spring is only about four weeks away and it always comes early to Halifax! _________________ "Be who you are and say what you feel... because those that matter... don't mind...and those that mind...don't matter!" All we have to do to put it all in perspective is to look at pics online of winter up near the Arctic Circle...such as in Norway...or even some I saw yesterday that were from Germany. THAT is a real winter. We have nothing to compare to that. BUt we also are not used to that, either.
Before we know it we will be complaining about the heat and humidity!>At least I will( I am one of the weirdos who loves winter and fall...spring is nice...summer...I could pass! YES< I Said it. ) I think it has to do with having had tick fever (Lyme) and never having the good health again. And I DETEST heat with humidity)
I should move to where it never gets above 80!
But, Mav, you are right. 38 days till offcial spring! _________________ Never ask for permission....beg for forgiveness.

Not to get too far off topic, but I had battled Lyme Disease last Spring into Summer. It completely sucked!
I don't know that the weather is anything we can change, but it seems to be that it does create hardships, especially for families that don't have extended family or old friends close by.
It feels like we've been back in these woods since before Christmas with the kids home...THEY will be so glad to get back to school...no chores there like I have 'em do here at home! Oh, and they miss all of their friends, too, I'm sure, because we only have the close neighbors over in these kinds of days. _________________ "Be who you are and say what you feel... because those that matter... don't mind...and those that mind...don't matter!"
