Duh,
As soon as Geroge W. Bush gets out of office, and Obama takes over....and his economic stimulus gets passed.
Oh, wait a second...nevermind. _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |

It seems that they are trimming down thier top heavy corporate administration positions. _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |

| Back in mid January it was reported Sam's Club would close 10 stores nationwide, most of them out west, effecting about 1500 employees. |

Maybe public education can learn a thing or two from our capitalists. _________________ I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion. ~Henry David Thoreau |

I think this is just a natural reaction to the economy. When we all have money to spend, and we are spending that much and more on our credit cards without thinking about saving, then the retailers respond and compete for our dollars.
When we pull back and cut our spending in half, the retailers, the smart ones who want to survive, respond by cutting their expenses also. _________________ Blessed are they who can give without remembering and take without forgetting

And when the budget pulls back maybe the school systems should cut back on their spending, but in the correct places. Businesses make the tough decisions to cut bosses all the time because cutting their higher salaries would make more financial sense. Maybe public education needs a little more business sense.

You're right, but that will never happen. Local government (SoBo and BOS) could learn a few things along with 'em, but that will never happen either. _________________ The Lord gives, government taxes it away. |

Not that I don't agree about cutting costs in hard times, but businesses and governments have different aims and purposes. A business owner is seeking profits and a certain rate of return on the investment; a government seeks to provide services for its constituents.
In theory, at least, money that was budgeted and not spent means that the intended level of service was not provided. Savings should be a budget item, not something that is "left over". |

I saw that too, however.
Great point. Puts things in perspective....eh? _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |
