but this story bothers me.
And here's the part that bothers me:
The lawmakers said Obama assured them the legislation was merely the first step, and he promised to work with them in the future to improve its provisions. _________________ Quid custodit ipsos custodes?

| The hope (by Progressives) is that if the foundation of the legislation can be passed now, eventually it can be "tweaked" to include the Public Option. That's scary to some, hopeful to others. |

Myquestion is this;
If they are willing go incrementally toward thier objective (public option...which progressives have actually said is the precursor to single payer)....
Then why not work with the republicans and start over, doing the whole thing incrementally with bipartisan support on initiatives where agreement can be found?
It seems incrementalism is bad, unless it is incrementally moving toward the democrat objective of a single payer government controlled heath care insurance system....
There are major tenants of this legislation that could garner 70 or more votes...today...if the dems would work with republicans. But I guess to them having the issue and wearing the American people down until they give in is the more important objective.
Guess it is just more of the most bipartisan presidential administration in history, and the most bi partisan transparent US House in history (as both Obama and Pelosi promised as they took the helm) in action I suppose. _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |

| Ah but Tarheel, if we go back to square one we'd be wasting time that could better be spent on jobs and stuff. |

Perhaps jobs should have been first priority anyway!
Seriously though...why would passing bipartisan fixes to this problem be a waste of time? Wouldn't that actually free up congress to work on other things even quicker? _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |

Somehow I can imagine such a thing dragging on forever, and one thing that I think we can both agree on is that this effort needs to be put behind us as soon as possible. We're all sick to death of it . |

Yea, I guess after the dems just ram this down our throats we can all relax and take a sigh of relief.
Not. _________________ “Among natural rights are these: first, a right to life; secondly, to liberty; thirdly to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can.” ---> Samuel Adams |
